Arica & ParinacotaWithin the mammalian fauna inhabiting the region of Arica and Parinacota we can find pumas, viscachas, chinchillas, foxes, llamas, and guanacos. We also find birds like the Andean avocet, white-faced ibis, Darwin's Rhea, and the Chilean flamingo, a noted species that makes up one of only six types of flamingos that inhabit the world, this nice bird is characterized for living in areas of low-depth water such as lakes and salt flats. In Chile, you can find them at Surire and Atacama Salt Flats and at El Yali National Reserve. The flora is characterized by trees, shrubs, herbs, geophytes, cactus, vines, epiphytes, ferns, lichens, and mosses. January: Arica Carnival. |
