OsterinselThe more than 600 Moai scattered throughout the island, are a cultural emblem of Easter Island. These sculptures can weigh 10 tons and the exact meaning of its origin is a mystery, but it is estimated that the aboriginal Polynesian erected these monuments to perpetuate the power and spirituality of their gods. In the eye sockets of the statues they put coral stones, simulating the eyes; but most were torn and thrown into the sea. The Easter Island is the only place in Chile, where the climate is tropical, ie, a non-arid climate and that during the 12 months of the year is dominated by temperatures above 18 degrees Celsius. Not only is the tropical climate of the Easter Island attracts the attention of tourists, the wealth of ancient traditions is attractive to those who want to know and live the respect with which the islanders commemorate their ancestors.
