Santiago and Valparaíso
Santiago
The capital of Chile has established itself as a center of cultural activity through the increasing opening of museums and art galleries. At the same time, it is notorious for its fascinating cuisine which blends creations and trends from around the world.
Touring the historical downtown, visitors can observe sumptuous buildings from the beginnings of the 19th century, such as the Palacio de Moneda, current seat of the Government of Chile.
Santiago is a cosmopolitan city which combines culture and entertainment, and is also located a few miles from major ski resorts and the wine route in the Central Valley.
Valparaiso
One of the most important ports in Latin America and declared World Heritage Site by UNESCO, Valparaíso is famous for its hills adorned with colorful houses, displayed as natural lookouts of the Pacific Ocean.
Once in Valparaiso, it is practically a requirement to visit the hills Alegre and Concepcion, which offer a multicultural array of restaurants, boutique hotels, and handicraft stores.
Although the hills are impressive, going uphill is a journey in itself, as you can travel up (and down) funicular elevators, which have been declared national monuments.
If you are not yet convinced, let us tell you that our Nobel Prize of Literature, Pablo Neruda, built his own place “La Sebastiana” here. This house is now designated as a museum, showcasing collections belonging to the poet.
