3D Images will promote Chile

Unique global project will be launched in early August in television and stores in over 50 countries

From the vast plains of the Atacama Desert, passing through the steep cliffs of Easter Island, to unpredictable dolphins that seem to come out of the screen.

All these landscapes may be viewed in 3D by millions of people in stores, displays, and TVs around the world thanks to an agreement between Sernatur, Chile Tourism, and LG, a Korean technology corporation.

This is an unprecedented initiative, which brings the landscapes of Chile to more than 50 countries and seeks to increase the number of foreigners who choose our country as destination.

The agreement, directed by Sernatur, is a partnership which involves the development of 3D videos showing diverse travel experiences that are available throughout the national territory.

These videos will be exhibited by LG in retail stores where their television sets are sold, which in turn will be preloaded with an application in the main menu, where buyers can access the images. This way, anyone will be able to enjoy these contents in 3D from their own home.

Later, the same application will allow the user to make contact with tour operators and even to access tour packages at special rates. All this, available through the TV.

"This public-private partnership brings together efforts in the development of technologies which allow for the creation of new platforms that position Chile as a tourist destination worldwide," said national director of Sernatur, Alvaro Castilla.

The line of TVs that promotes such content will be launched in 54 countries during early August. In addition to traditional destinations such as Europe, the initiative is also aimed at countries that have gained importance in the promotion of our tourism, such as Japan, USA, and Brazil.

"What could be better than to promote the fantastic places that Chile offers through a global platform of millions of televisions," said James Nettle, director of marketing for the Korean company, who explained that this experience will serve as a model, opening the possibility of later implementing a promotional system for other countries or products.

Increase of tourists. Last year, 2.7 million tourists arrived in Chile, generating revenues of over US$ 2 billion. This year Sernatur expects to exceed 3 million visitors.

Since late 2010, the tourism strategy applied internationally has focused on experience sharing. Thus, this initiative aims to highlight, through television sets, experiences that foreigners may live in Chile, based on concepts that form this country's identity, such as nature, wine, culture, and adventure.

"Our challenge is to seek new and innovative elements and this agreement will allow us to position Chile as a leading country in terms of tourism," Castilla added.
