(8 Days - 7 Nights)

Day 1 Arica - Codpa Valley (135 km)
Pick up your car at the airport or the downtown rental office. Northern Chile's Arica y Parinacota region was once contained within the grand Inca territory, inhabited by indigenous Aymara, Chinchorro, Chango and Quechua tribes. You will see part of the Azapa Valley, which produces tropical fruit (including guava), olives and flowers. The area also is home to relics of the cultures that once populated the area. From Azapa drive back to the Panamerican highway and turn south in direction of Iquique. After aprox 65 km turn left on Route A 35 entering the Codpa Valley, with a slow rhythm that almost seems to be the result of a shamanic spell, this valley's reputation as one of the most peaceful parts of Chile has grown in the past few years. Overnight in the Codpa Valley Lodge.

Day 2 Codpa Valley - Putre (160 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. The route today will take you to great heights visiting the petroglyphs of Ofargía and passing through the villages of Timar, Tignamar, Saxamar, Belen and Chaquipiña. Zapahuira was a strategically important trading post for the Inca Empire and situated at Route 11 that connects Arica with Putre.
The highland village of Putre Visiting Putre will transport you to another time, as some of its buildings date back to the 17th century. For example, the town's church was built in 1670 and restored in 1871. the town is situated at 3,500 meters above sea level. Putre is a good place to try local dishes such as llama meat and papa chuño (dried potatoes), which are especially delicious with goat cheese.Overnight in Putre. (B)

Day 3 Putre - Lauca National Park - Arica (200 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. On your way to Lake Chungará, be sure to visit Parinacota and the wetlands fed by the Cotacotani Lagoon. You can watch local animals "eating breakfast" in the morning. The Nevados Payachatas, twin snow-capped volcanoes that tower 6,500-meter high (their names are Pomerape and Parinacota), are a preview of the spectacular scenery that awaits you at the lake.
Surrounded by wetlands and soaring peaks like the Payachatas, Sajama and Guallatiri, the lake has a 1 km circular trail with many lookout points so you can take in the impressive scenery and revel in the glory and majesty of Andes Mountains. You will drive back to the sea level. Overnight in Arica. (B)

Day 4 Arica - Iquique (300 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. After breakfast you will head southwards and experience the dry desert "Pampa" at 1.000 - 1.200 m above sea level.Various deep canyons intersect this high and dry plain. You will then enter the region around Iquique where the 19th century saltpetre boom left its marks. Overnight in Iquique. (B)

Day 5 Iquique - San Pedro de Atacama (550 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. You will take the highway to the south through the Pampa del Tamarugal before turning east to the famous Atacama Desert. Overnight in San Pedro de Atacama. (B)

Day 6 Salar de Atacama and Moon Valley (100 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. The narrow streets of this old town are home to the mysticism of ancestral cultures and all the trappings of modern tourism. This unique blend of past and present has made San Pedro one of the most photographed places in specialized journals. Today we recommend visit the Valle de La Luna, the most popular spots are the Cordillera de la Sal Lookout, Ckari Ravine, Tres Marías (a set of unusual, sculpture-like salt formations), and the biggest dune in Valle de la Luna. In the afternoon visit Atacama Salt Flat, Chaxa Lagoon, and Flamingos National Reserve, to observe three out of the six different kinds of flamingos existing in the world.Overnight in San Pedro. (B)

Day 7 El Tatio Geisers (94 km)
Early in the morning, excursion to El Tatio Geysers, the world’s highest geyser field, which erupts each day at dawn, creating unusual mineral formations and spouting high clouds of steam. Trekking to observe various geothermal activities. Breakfast and opportunity to bathe in natural springs. Return to San Pedro. Overnight in San Pedro. (B)
(As a suggestion we recommend to take a regular tour to visit el Tatio due to the dangerous road and the early departure that is required to visit them)

Day 8 San Pedro de Atacama - Calama (100 km)
Breakfast in the hotel. You will return your car at Calama airport or city office. (B)
